Teacher Candidate at Meadow Fair

My name is Joe Shortt and I’ve recently completed a clinical teaching practicum placement at Sirius College, Meadow Fair Campus.

I’m currently completing a Masters of Education at Melbourne University and naturally, I felt a combination of excitement and nerves whilst pre-empting my placement allocations.

Needless to say, my involvement at Sirius College has been amongst my most rewarding experiences since commencing my studies. Sirius is filled with an amazing standard of academic abilities, motivated students and dedicated teachers.

My placement at the school has been characterised by the warm, welcoming and entertaining students and teachers who have made my experience so enjoyable. I was lucky to have a great teaching mentor Mr Barrie, whose extensive knowledge of the humanities discipline and positive rapport with his students, demonstrated the enriching and welcoming culture of his classrooms.

Academic research emphasises the importance of critical thinking and fostering independent learning. The classrooms I entered at Sirius were filled with enthusiastic, motivated, positive students, always eager to participate in classroom discussions. The students’ overall engagement in their educations demonstrates their ability to become lifelong learners, destined to achieve great things. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Mr Barrie, all of the students and the entire Sirius community for welcoming me into their school and enriching my placement experience.

Library News

To encourage students to read more… the Library has begun an initiative in which books are available on shelves in the Canteen area for students to read and return once they are finished without having to borrow them from the Library.

We hope that students will take up this opportunity to further their enjoyment of reading while they are having their lunch.

The Librarian will be adding more books to the shelves provided in the canteen area. We remind students that each author has an interesting story to tell…so, please read more.
